The Fair Work Ombudsman have recently released changes to award Pay Guides in the electrical and mining industries. The changes are primarily focused on how allowances are calculated and paid. 

The changes simplify things by moving from hourly-based calculations to weekly rates, helping to reduce confusion and streamline payroll processes.

The Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award

Effective from: 15 May 2025

 

The above changes provide a more consistent way to apply allowances, making it easier for businesses to budget, manage payroll and stay compliance. Businesses who already pay the maximum weekly allowances won't see a change to costs.
