5 Tips to Create Better Habits in the Workplace in 2026

A new year is a great chance to pivot your mindset towards goals for the year and building a strong foundation for continued success. Rather than one big resolution, ongoing productivity is built by small, consistent habits that compound over time.

These five practices can help you feel more focused, capable, and resilient at work and beyond. What's important is to understand and appreciate we're all different; from ourselves, to our roles, and our workplaces - tailor these tips to best suit you!

1. Start your day by clearly identifying your priorities.

Identify the most important tasks for the day. Completing these first creates momentum and reduces decision fatigue. It may even just be a single task! They may be something you can complete before emails or messages, or a focus for once you settle into your day.

2. Do a daily, weekly and monthly reset.

Before logging off at the end of each day, note what you completed and what matters tomorrow. Closing the loop each day makes it easier to switch off and return refreshed.

Once a week, review what worked, what didn’t, and what’s coming up. A 15-minute reset can prevent small issues from turning into long-term stress.

Monthly check-ins help you course-correct before the year slips by, adjust goals as needed rather than abandoning them altogether.

3. Protect deep work time and set boundaries around availability.

Block out uninterrupted time in your calendar for focused work and treat it as non-negotiable - fewer distractions lead to better outcomes in less time. Being constantly reachable doesn’t equal being productive. Define when you are available and when you are offline, and stick to it where possible.

4. Keep a “wins” list.

Track accomplishments, big and small. This habit builds confidence, supports performance reviews, and reminds you of your progress during challenging periods.

5. Move every day, even briefly.

A walk, stretch, or short movement break improves focus, mood, and energy levels throughout the day. If you're working a desk job, it's even more important to find time to get blood moving. If an ergonomic workspace is available to you, take it! Something like a standing desk can have great long term benefits for our health and mitigate some of the issues that sitting so often can cause. Further to this, seeking out natural light where possible helps support our natural rhythms and mental health.
