Employii Internship: Paras' reflection
May 01, 2025As Paras' internship at Employii comes to an end, we asked him to reflect on his experience. From expectations and key learnings to challenges and advice, Paras shares his insights for anyone considering an internship. Here's what he had to say:
Internship Expectations
Interning at Employii was an amazing experience and one of the best decisions I've made. The work environment was warm, open and friendly. Every team member I met was welcoming and gave valuable advice that helped me excel throughout the internship. I started interning for Employii on the 26th of February 2025 and my primary role included creating social media content for Instagram and TikTok, developing blogs, drafting the monthly newsletter and assisting with human resource (HR) functions, such as job descriptions. I went into this internship with the aim of getting some hands on experience in digital marketing and to find out what HR is really like in a professional workplace. Thanks to Employii, I achieved both.
Internship Learnings
From my internship, I have learnt so much compared to what I usually learn from my university studies. I've come to realise work experience is what sets you apart when applying for future roles. I learnt how to use Canva to create visually appealing posts for social media sites and learnt how to analyse current social media trends. I was also taught to consider “who’s the customer” and “who’s the consumer” when creating content and that every aspect of a social media post has its own purpose; the hashtags, caption and call to action are structured the way they are for a reason. I also delved into the fields of sales funnel and search engine optimisation, researching how Employii can use both these marketing tools to drive success. Finally, I have also learnt about different types of HR policies whilst conducting research for blogs and how to navigate all aspects of a job description. All off these learnings and skills are necessary to thrive at any job or internship and were not taught to me throughout my current time at university. I am grateful to Employii for teaching me these skills.
Internship challenges:
Although I have learnt a lot throughout my time with Employii, there were some challenges that I had to effectively navigate through. First of all, adapting to a working office environment and understanding office etiquette posed as a challenge for me. I learnt that that there is a time and place to ask questions, especially not when staff members are busy working away on tasks with upcoming deadlines. To add on, I also learnt that I don’t need to ask to go to the bathroom as well. Another key challenge was learning how to prioritise and organise my set tasks. At times when I would have multiple tasks set, I would find it difficult prioritising which tasks I should complete first. Thanks to some constructive feedback and some guidance from the Employii team, I have learnt how to tackle these challenges effectively in order to turn them into key skills that will help me later on.
Should you do an internship?
For those considering if they should commence an internship, I would strongly recommend you do so, and especially with Employii. An internship is the best way to gain hands on experience in your area of study and figure out if that field is for you. An internship is so much different to university, as it shares multiple characteristics of what a job in your field is like, and furthermore, you build workplace skills from an internship that will make you more employable in the future.
Internship tips & tricks:
For those who want to start or who are starting an internship, here are some tips & tricks from my own experience. First of all, try and make the most of this experience. The main purpose of an internship is to build relationships and contacts, gain work experience and ask questions. If you take it for granted, it is easy to lose sight of the purpose and may not be as beneficial. Second of all, start your internship search as early as possible. Internships are hard to come by, especially in marketing. Looking early will get your foot further in the door and boost your chances of securing a position. Finally, set some personal goals for what you want to achieve from the internship. This could range from building contacts, building certain skills, or gaining some experience.
