What is an Employee Assistance Program?

#australia #eap #employee #employeeassistanceprogram #humanresources #mentalhealth #work Sep 19, 2025

An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential counselling and support service offered by employers, to help staff manage personal or work-related issues that may affect their wellbeing, mental health, or job performance. In Australia, EAPs are increasingly recognised as a vital part of workplace health and safety, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.

They hold a range of benefits, including:

  • Increasing the Employer Value Proposition by enhancing employee engagement, attracting top talent and strengthening the company’s reputation.
  • Increasing productivity by promoting emotional and mental wellbeing, addressing employee concerns, and minimising both absenteeism and presenteeism.
  • Long term cost savings by reducing turnover, reducing workplace incidents and reducing expensive claims.
  • Ensures legislative obligation and duty of care is met, by creating a psychologically safe workplace and reducing the risk of stress related works compensation issues.
  • Creates a positive work culture, by providing communication techniques and offering tailored guidance on how to tackle workplace issues.

There’s different ways to establish and maintain an Employee Assistance Program in Australia, but to make things easy we’ve teamed up with Aster Health Group to launch a bespoke EAP for our clients.
