From July 1st, the national minimum wage set by Fair Work across Australia is going to increase. Here’s everything you need to know!  

 

What has changed? 

The Fair Work Commission has set a 3.5% increase to both the National Minimum Wage and the Minimum Award Wages.  

The National Minimum Wage applies to employees who aren’t covered by an award or enterprise agreement and will rise to: 

  • $948 per week, or 
  • $24.95 per hour. 

The Award Wages are dependent on the specific award an employee is on, usually determined by the industry they work in. Most employees in Australia will be on an award.  

 

When will I see a difference in my pay check? 

The changes will apply from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025, which means if your weekly pay period starts on Wednesday you'll receive the new rates from Wednesday 2 July 2025. 

 

What are the next steps? 

Employees  

  • If you are covered by an Award, check the relevant Award Pay Scale to familiarise yourself with the changes to your rate. These should be updated soon! A list of the Awards can be found here.  
  • If you are not covered by an Award, check your payslip from 1 July to ensure your rate is reflective of the changes. If not, touch base with your Employer or reach out to us to assist! 
  • Please note, if you are on an agreement and paid more than the minimum rate you may not see the full effect of the 3.5% increase. 

Employers 

  • Make sure you're across which employees are paid an Award rate and who is paid a flat rate/ inclusive salary.  
  • For employees paid an Award rate, ensure this is increased by 3.5% come 1 July. 
  • For employees on a flat rate/ inclusive salary, consider whether a wage assessment needs to be conducted to ensure compliance with the changes.
